Eigashima Shuzo
江井ヶ嶋酒造
Eigashima Shuzo Co., Ltd.
One of Japan's oldest whisky license holders, dating back to 1919, though whisky has traditionally been a small part of their broader sake and shochu production. Located in Akashi, Hyogo Prefecture, along the coast of the Seto Inland Sea. Eigashima produces the Akashi single malt and White Oak brands. The distillery is notable for its small scale, seasonal production (whisky is made only part of the year) and proximity to the sea, which influences maturation. Akashi whiskies offer an accessible and often well priced entry into craft Japanese whisky.
