About
From Helios Distillery in Nago, Okinawa, originally known for awamori and rum. Kura The Whisky leverages the subtropical climate for rapid maturation, giving it a character unlike mainland Japanese whiskies. An interesting curiosity from Japan's southernmost whisky producer.
Tasting Notes
Tropical fruit, brown sugar, and a faint hint of Okinawan black sugar. Oak and vanilla from the barrel aging.
Smooth and medium bodied. Honey, dried tropical fruits, and a distinctive warm sweetness unique to the Okinawan climate maturation. Subtle oak spice.
Medium length with lingering sweetness, a touch of tannin, and a warm tropical character.
What People Are Saying
Often purchased as an Okinawan souvenir. Smooth and easy to drink. Several reviewers note the distinctive warm sweetness compared to mainland whiskies.
A novelty for the "Okinawan whisky" story more than the liquid itself. Made from imported malt re-casked in Okinawa. Interesting tropical character from the climate maturation but not a must-buy. Fun souvenir.

How to Enjoy
Try it on the rocks to let the tropical character open up. Works well in a highball with a squeeze of shikuwasa (Okinawan lime).
