Yoichi Single Malt Grande
余市 シングルモルト グランデ
About
The Grande is Nikka's elevated take on Yoichi single malt, originally created for travel retail. At 48% ABV (versus the standard 45%), it dials up the peaty, robust character Yoichi is known for. Think of it as the regular Yoichi with the volume turned up.
Tasting Notes
Rich matured malt with mild sweetness and mellow fruitiness. Soft smoke and bittersweet peat wrap around the core.
Full bodied and deeply malty. Peat builds gradually with notes of cocoa, dried fruit, and charred oak. The higher ABV gives it real presence without being aggressive.
Long and smoky with lingering dark chocolate, campfire embers, and a gentle maritime salinity.
What People Are Saying
Consistently praised as a significant step up from the standard Yoichi. The higher ABV and virgin oak add richness without losing the classic Yoichi peat character. Multiple users recommend buying at Japanese duty free where it is priced fairly at around 14,500 yen.
Rated favorably on Whiskybase with users noting the enhanced peat and wood integration. Travel retail exclusivity makes it harder to find outside of Japan airports.

How to Enjoy
Best enjoyed neat or with a splash of water to open up the smoke. Works in a smoky highball for those who like their long drinks with depth.
